Charles Frederick Worth (1826–1895)

The mid-late 1800’s mark the ending of costume history and the beginning of fashion design. Charles Frederick Worth (1826–1895) is credited to be the first dressmaker/fashion designer to introduce the “look” to his customers (traditionally the consumer decided upon the design they wanted and the dressmakers would execute it). He was also noted for putting labels on the clothing he designed.
