Color of Pomegranates

Inspired by Armenian illuminated miniatures, Color of Pomegranates (directed by Sergei Parajanov in 1968) narrates the life of Armenian poet Sayat Nova. This film constructs visual mannerisms of medieval life, a wool dying and manufacturing family business, tools of such business and the presentation of the family who runs it, the making of tapestries, delicate lace trimmings and a marvelous portrayal of domestic space both indoors and outdoors. So far we have seen medieval costume through a European eye and in this film we get a chance to see costume from a South Caucasus region.
